ROUGHNECKS REPORT: FORMER WR ANTHONY ARMSTRONG CONTINUES TO GRAB ATTENTION WITH REDSKINS

ARMSTRONG LEADS WASHINGTON WITH SIX CATCHES FOR 91 YARDS & ONE TD AFTER TWO PRESEASON GAMES

MIDLAND, TX. : Former Roughnecks wide receiver Anthony Armstrong is beginning to make a case for not only making the Washington Redskins active roster this season but for potentially becoming a starter. Armstrong has certainly taken advantage of his time on the field this preseason for the Redskins and he continues to turn heads week after week. In his second preseason appearance, Armstrong finished leading the Redskins with four receptions for 82 yards in Washington's 23-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens back on Saturday, August 21. Armstrong's first reception was an important 45-yard catch from QB Donovan McNabb which set-up the Redskins first quarter field goal. Now with two impressive performances in the book this preseason Armstrong leads the Redskins with six receptions for 91 yards & one touchdown.

Armstrong is now receiving the notoriety with the hard work he is bringing to the field as he was named the Redskins Player of the Week following their match-up with the Ravens. Additionally, the official website of the Washington Redskins (www.redskins.com) this week has covered Anthony Armstrong in a report discussing how Armstrong is making the most of his time on the field this preseason.

Armstrong has proven to be a journeyman throughout professional football with his first stop being with the Roughnecks organization. Armstrong was an important factor for the Roughnecks offensive unit helping the club finish 12-2 in 2006 and capture the 2006 IFL (Intense Football League) Championship in a 97-56 dominating effort over Corpus Christi in Intense Bowl II. Armstrong finished third on the team in '06 with 55 receptions for 760 yards and 18 touchdowns. Armstrong's journey continued on to the AFL with the Dallas Desperados following his stint with the Roughnecks. After two productive seasons with the Desperados, Armstrong became a practice squad player for the Miami Dolphins in 2008 but was later cut by the Dolphins before the start of the 2009 season.

The Washington Redskins quickly signed Armstrong and added him to their practice squad in October of 2009 where he would spend the rest of the season. The 5'11", 182 - pound speedster is now building confidence and making impact plays this preseason for the Redskins. Armstrong will look to further gain attention this preseason when the Redskins travel to New York to face the Jets in the team's third preseason game on Friday, August 27 with kickoff set for 7:00 PM ET.
